Contacting me with any questions and then submitting your retainer fee is your first step! I take a limited number of sessions per month and your retainer fee will hold your spot on my calendar. Then I ask parents to contact me within 24 hours of delivery so we can set an actual session date and time. Sessions take place within the first 3 weeks of life so contacting me as soon as possible is very crucial. I will have you fill out a questionnaire to let me know of any specific styling needs you have as well as colors you'd like used!
Just a few tips and suggestions to prepare for the session:
***If at all possible, try-keeping baby stimulated and awake an hour or so before the session; a bath usually helps in keeping them awake. It’s best to start on a full belly so feeding him/her right before you put them in the car seat to head my way is best. Please dress him/her in a button down outfit so I’m not having to pull anything over their head while undressing them.
The room will be set between 80-85 degrees for baby so you might want to dress light. I will have beverages and light snacks for you to munch on during the session as well as some magazines. Sessions can take up to 2-4 hours even with a very sleepy baby. I have a comfy sofa and most parents take advantage of this little break and relax. All I need you to bring is a paci if he/she takes one and diapers. It's nice to bring a bottle of formula or expressed breast milk so I can feed baby during the session, but it's not mandatory. Once baby has that connection with mommy in the middle of the session, it's sometimes hard for them to get back into a deep sleep or if mommy’s milk is not in all the way baby may want to use mommy to snack and pacify frequently. If you're exclusively breastfeeding, that's perfectly fine. We will take breaks as we need to. I will play a white noise machine during the session to mimic the sounds of the womb.
During your session
I have a beautiful studio with several real wood backdrops and hundreds of props available for use with your session. Everything needed, hats, wraps, headbands, props etc. are provided by me. Sessions can take anywhere from 2-3 hours so I have a plush seating area for parents with drinks and snacks for you to munch on as well as magazines and a TV to make this an absolute stress free experience for you. We will do our planned set ups with baby alone first and I have an assistant on hands at all time to ensure safety.
When should I book?
I take a limited amount of newborn sessions per month so that no matter when your baby comes (early or late!) I will be able to fit you in. This also means my schedule can fill up quickly so I recommend booking early rather then later.
Do you photograph twins?
Absolutely! These are some of my favorite sessions! It's amazing to watch them together and I've managed to capture several smiles when the babies are closest. No extra charge, but I do require that a full session is booked as photographing multiples is much more time consuming.
Can you photograph my other children?
Yes! I am always happy to incorporate siblings into the session as this is an exciting time for the entire family! I do require these take place at the beginning of the session and that grandma or dad can take siblings to the park or home immediately after they are finished. The sessions can be long and hot for little ones! I do charge a $25 fee to add in other siblings.
Do you provide props?
I provide everything needed including hats, wraps, headbands, backdrops, props etc for your session! I even have extra wipes and burp cloths on hand for those extra accidents. I've accumulated enough props over the years to ensure your session will look like no one else's.
Can I include something I already own?
I'd be happy to include something in your session that is of sentimental value. I just ask that you send me a picture ahead of time so I can plan, if possible. While I love incorporating special pieces into sessions, I recommend that parents not buy their own headbands or outfits. Most pieces that are available to non-photographers will be too large for a true newborn, even if marked as a newborn size.
Do you do other types of sessions?
Yes! I absolutely love the fact that I can grow with the families I work with. In addition to newborns, I do milestone sessions during their first year, as well as family sessions. I take on a limited amount of full family sessions in the fall and usually offer mini sessions as well. Priority is always given to returning customers, and I often sell out before they even have a chance to reach the public.
